A congregation of generous people is a joy to behold, and a challenge to create.
Becoming a generous congregation is not just about asking people for money.
Rather, it’s becoming the kind of congregation–and the kind of people–we yearn to be.
In this workshop, author and stewardship consultant Michael Durall will provide insights into how congregations can become stronger communities that believe they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. This is not a “sit and listen” program. Come prepared to work!
Topics include:
• How becoming a congregation of generous people can transform a church
• Why some people are dedicated members and others are not
• Why people give (or don’t give) to their churches and other causes
• Why some churches reach out to serve the larger community, while others lack a larger purpose
• Why traditional stewardship pledge drives inadvertently reinforce low-level and same level giving
• How to create a stewardship pledge drive that your best people will want to run
• How to build a “pews up” foundation for thoughtful, effective and consistent stewardship program in the years to come
• The importance of your church being a worthy recipient of charitable giving
Michael Durall is Principal of the CommonWealth Consulting Group in Boulder, Colorado. (www.vitalcongregations.com) (www.TenMinutesOrLess.blogspot.com) and the author of five books about congregational life, including the Alban Institute best-seller, Creating Congregations of Generous People, and Beyond the Collection Plate: Overcoming Obstacles to Faithful Giving. With a graduate degree from Harvard University, Durall has worked with congregations from six denominations. He has also served as a keynote speaker at numerous seminaries, district events and major universities.
Since Durall’s work involves helping congregations create tailor-made plans for the future, he will telephone clergy and lay leaders of congregations that register, ensuring that this workshop will address issues that are local and timely.
